Sunday mornings can be a bit hectic for my staff and myself. You see, we are a Children's Church and on some Sundays we average about 40 children in attendance from ages 2 to 12. There are some 13 year olds who don't want to leave us so they stay around to asisst with the toddlers.
On this particular Sunday morning, a little girl from the neighborhood shows up to Church but sits outside near the bushes. One of the children came to me and pointed her out. I went outside to talk to her. I asked why she didn't want to come in with the other children.
She replied, "They will make fun of me because I don't have shoes to wear."
I assured her that this would not happened. Then she told me, "I have this ugly blister on my arm and they will be afraid of me." I asked to see it and said, "Ah, that's nothing." I then took off my suit jacket and showed her my blister which was much bigger and uglier than hers.
She was amazed and asked me how I got it. I told her and got her to tell me about hers. She still wouldn't come in after all that. I prayed, "Lord I need Crest." Crest is one of my staff members who is excellently anointed to work with children. No sooner than I completed my prayer than Crest walked up. I called him over, explained what was going on and her immediately took over.
He took this little girl into our office with her brothers around the back way. In a few moments, our office door opened and she walked in with her brothers. While doing our devotionals, God laid it on my heart to allow Crest to teach the lesson. I was obedient and so was Crest.
I went into the back of the room and began to catch up on some administrative work when all of a sudden I heard the following instructions from Crest to the children. "Everyone, take your shoes off. Then I want you to take your socks off and line them up against the wall." He took his off too and bagan to teach the lesson. I looked over at the little girl's face and it was lit up. She could not believe that someone would go through this for her, now nobody knew who didn't have socks or shoes to wear today.
I thank God for the lesson Crest taught me today. I hope that other Children Church leaders will read this and get something out of it. After all, Jesus did say, "Suffer the little children to come unto me..." and Crest did just that.
